How to read the chart
Pick the one ancestor you and the other person both share (a grandparent, a great-grandparent, and so on). Count how many generations down from that ancestor each of you sits, then find your count on the left and theirs along the top. The cell where they cross is your relationship.
The diagonal is same-generation cousins
The highlighted cells running corner to corner are pairs at the same generation: two grandchildren of the shared ancestor are first cousins, two great-grandchildren are second cousins, and so on, one degree higher each row down the diagonal.
Off the diagonal is aunts, uncles, and "removed" cousins
Anywhere the row and column generations differ, one of you is one or more generations closer to the shared ancestor. In the first row or column, that gap gives you an aunt, uncle, great-aunt or great-uncle relationship. Everywhere else, it gives you a "removed" cousin: the degree comes from whichever of you is closer to the ancestor, and the removal counts how many generations separate you from them.
